Secondary Source Readings

1. All of the secondary source readings for the class are contained on a CD distributed by the instructor. The material on the CD is divided into three folders 1) Authors--with a sub folder for each author studied 2) Narrativa--with general works and folders for the chapters of longer works (Sobejano, Herzberger et.al. that you will be reading) and 3) bibliographies that contains the bibliographical references for each of the pdf files. Please note there are more articles of the disk than are on the reading list.
2. References are made by foldername/subfolder name/title of PDF file to facilitate your use of the information. You can then cross reference the file to the bibliogrpahical citation for it.
3. After each citation there is an indication of whether it is "classic" or "contemporary"
4. You can change the orientation of the PDF by going to view, rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.

• Autores/Baroja/Nora--Classic. This is a long reading and you can stop after the section on on El abrol de la ciencia (p. 172) but it the article as a whole is invaluable as preparation for M.A. or doctoral exams.

• Autores/Baroja/GullonR2--Classic. A short but classic presentation
• Autores/Baroja/GullonR--Classic. A classical definition of the concept of the Generation of 98.
• Autores/Baroja/Ugarte--Contemporary. An excellent analysis of Madrid and the narrative of Baroja
• Narativaespanola/JohnsonCrossfire/capitulo6--Contemporary. An important reinterpration
• Narativaespanola/JohnsonCrossfire/capitulo1--Contemporary. Good background
• Autores/Baroja/Sobejano--Classic. Still the best interpreation of the role of Nietzche on Baroja
